'How to Get a Transcript of a Spotify Podcast Episode'

Sometimes a Spotify podcast episode already has a transcript. Sometimes the transcript exists only for the creator. And sometimes there is no transcript at all.

The quickest route depends on what you are trying to do. A listener who wants to read along should check Spotify first. Someone who needs editable text, timestamps or a transcript for an episode without Spotify's feature will need to create one from the public episode audio.

First, check whether Spotify shows a transcript

Spotify says that transcripts are available for some shows. When an episode is eligible, listeners may see the transcript in the Now Playing view or on the episode page in the Spotify mobile app.

Open the episode in the mobile app and look around the Now Playing screen and episode details. If there is no transcript option, it does not necessarily mean you missed it. Spotify's own documentation says the feature is not available for every creator or episode.

If you publish the show, the controls are different. Eligible creators can open Spotify for Creators on the web, select an episode, and find the transcript beneath its details. Spotify currently lets creators download an auto-generated transcript as VTT, then upload a corrected VTT or SRT file. Direct editing inside Spotify for Creators is not supported.

If there is no transcript, use the episode link

For a public podcast episode, copy the specific episode URL rather than the show homepage. The episode link gives a transcription tool a much better chance of identifying the right recording.

The episode was removed or changed

An old shared URL may still circulate after the underlying episode disappears. Search for the current episode page on the publisher's site.

The recording is public but difficult to hear

Background music, remote-call artifacts and overlapping speakers affect transcript quality even when the episode can be accessed.

Can you download Spotify's own transcript?

Listeners generally use the transcript inside the Spotify experience. Spotify's official download workflow is aimed at eligible creators managing their own episodes through Spotify for Creators. The downloaded file is VTT, which the creator can edit externally and upload again.

Check the transcript before quoting it

2. Listen to the full sentence, not just the quoted fragment.
3. Check the speaker.
4. Verify names and numbers from another source when possible.
5. Preserve the speaker's meaning when cleaning up filler words.
